First Christmas in New Home Gift Ideas They'll Keep
The first Christmas in a new home is a small milestone that's easy to miss. The boxes are mostly gone, the tree has found a corner, and for the first time the people you're buying for will spend the holidays in a place that's theirs. A good first Christmas in new home gift marks that year without adding clutter to a home they're still setting up. Here are six ideas for friends, family and clients who moved this year, and for anyone shopping for their own new place.
We make 3D floor plan frames, so one of the ideas is ours. The rest aren't.

What makes a good first Christmas in new home gift
Most people who moved this year have already had the housewarming round of plants, wine and candles. The gifts that land in December tend to do one of two things: they mark the year, or they help with something the move left undone.
A quick test before you buy. Will it still mean something in five years, and will it fit the home as it is now? A compact HDB flat in Singapore and a house with a long hallway have very different amounts of space, so gifts that stand on a shelf or hang on a wall are easier to place than furniture.
1. A 3D floor plan frame of their new home
Our Signature 3D floor plan frame is made from the plan of the home itself. The walls are laser-cut from pine and layered so the rooms stand up off the backing, the furniture is engraved into the floor, and every frame is assembled by hand. You can add their names and a date to engrave, such as the day they got the keys, and choose a short quote ("Where Life Happens" or "Build Your Own Dreams") or none at all.
How it works when it's a surprise:
- Send us the plan as a JPG, PNG or PDF. A hand-drawn plan is fine, as long as the rooms are clear.
- Don't have the plan yet? You can send it after ordering, which gives you time to ask the agent or quietly find the old listing.
- You approve a digital preview before anything is cut.
- Each frame is made to order in Singapore, takes 3 to 5 days to make and arrives within about 10 days. We ship worldwide.
It's about 24 by 32.7 cm, so it stands on a sideboard or desk or hangs on a wall. It suits a first Christmas because homes change. Furniture moves and rooms get new jobs, and a few years on the plan is the record of how it all started.

2. A first Christmas in new home ornament
The dated ornament is popular for good reason. A ceramic, glass or wooden decoration with the year and their new street, block or family name goes on the tree every December and quietly dates itself. We don't make ornaments, but if you give one, pick a material that lasts and keep the wording simple. It pairs well with a frame: one comes out each December, the other stays up all year.
3. Something useful the move left undone
Practical gifts are underrated at Christmas. After a move there is usually a short list of things nobody got round to buying: a sturdy step ladder, a cordless drill and wall plugs for hanging pictures, a lamp for the room with harsh ceiling light, a decent set of kitchen knives.
If you don't know what's missing, ask. A gift they chose beats a guess, and a voucher for a local hardware or furniture store works too.
4. A photo book of their first year in the home
Collect the photos they posted or sent you: the empty rooms on key day, the first takeaway dinner on the floor, the paint samples on the wall. Print them in order with dates, and leave the last page blank for a photo of this year's tree.
5. Something for their first Christmas hosting
For many people, the first Christmas in a new home is also the first time they host. Table linen, a large serving platter or extra glasses all help on the day, and a food hamper means one less shopping trip in a busy week.
6. A gift for a Christmas movie fan
If the person you're buying for watches Home Alone every December, our McCallister House frame is a fan-inspired floor plan of the house from the film, in the same pine and size as our other frames. We looked at what it shows in our post on the Home Alone house floor plan. It isn't official merchandise. Hausframes is not affiliated with, licensed by or endorsed by Home Alone, its filmmakers or the film's owners, 20th Century Studios and Disney.
For a sitcom fan who has just moved, our Friends housewarming gift ideas might suit better.
Christmas gift for new homeowners you don't know well
Buying for a client, colleague or neighbour? Keep it neutral and easy to place. Good food, a candle or a small plant are safe. If you sold or built the home, a floor plan frame is personal without being too personal, because it's about the home rather than the people in it.
Agents and builders who give frames to clients can see our closing gifts page, and our guide to closing gift ideas for first-time home buyers covers more options for the day itself.

Christmas gift for a couple in a new home
For a couple's first Christmas in a home they chose together, a gift with both names on it works well. The Signature frame can carry both names and the date they moved in. Pair it with something practical, like dinner from their favourite local place, since couples who have just moved are often short on time.
If it's your own first Christmas in a new home
It's fine to buy the keepsake yourself. Plenty of people order a frame of their own place once the move has settled. Take a photo of each room before the decorations go up, too, because you forget the first-year look surprisingly fast.
If you're also shopping for parents who are leaving a long-time house this year, our guide to a gift for parents selling the family home may help.
When to order for Christmas
Order by 15 Dec for Christmas. That date may change, so check the site for the latest. Each frame takes 3 to 5 days to make and arrives within about 10 days, but we can't guarantee arrival before 25 Dec, especially for addresses outside Singapore, where customs can add a few days.
If your date is tight, email us at myhausframes@gmail.com before you order and we'll do what we can.
First Christmas in new home gift FAQ
What is a good first Christmas in new home gift?
Something that marks the year or helps with what the move left undone, like a 3D floor plan frame of the home, a dated ornament, a photo book of their first year or a useful item they still need.
What is a good Christmas gift for a new homeowner you don't know well?
Keep it neutral and easy to place. Food, a candle or a small plant are safe choices. If you sold or built the home, a floor plan frame feels personal without being too personal, because it is about the home rather than the people.
What should I write in a first Christmas in new home card?
Keep it short and specific: the street or block, the year, and one memory from the move. A line such as "To many more Christmases at number 12" says more than a long message.
Can I order a floor plan frame without having the floor plan yet?
Yes. You can send the plan after ordering. We accept JPG, PNG and PDF files, and hand-drawn plans are fine as long as the rooms are clear. You approve a digital preview before anything is cut.
When should I order a floor plan frame for Christmas?
Order by 15 Dec for Christmas. That date may change, so check the site for the latest. Each frame takes 3 to 5 days to make and arrives within about 10 days, but we can't guarantee arrival before 25 Dec, especially outside Singapore.
Do you ship outside Singapore?
Yes. Every frame is made to order in Singapore and assembled by hand, and we ship worldwide. Customs can add a few days in some countries.
Is a housewarming gift the same as a Christmas gift for a new home?
They overlap. If you missed the housewarming, a Christmas gift can do both jobs, so choose something that suits the home all year rather than only in December.
