Builder Handover Gift Ideas That Buyers Actually Keep
Most builder handover gifts are a bottle of wine or a branded hamper. Buyers enjoy them for a week, then forget who sent them. A good builder handover gift does something else: it marks the day they got the keys, and it stays on the wall once the boxes are gone.
We make 3D floor plan frames of real homes, so we think about this from the builder's side a lot. You already have the drawings. The buyers already know the layout by heart. Framing that plan is one of the few gifts that belongs only to their new build, and it is straightforward to order before handover.
Why a floor plan works as a new build closing gift for buyers
Builders have an advantage most gift-givers don't. The floor plan is already on your desk. You don't need to ask the buyers for a file, and you don't risk spoiling a surprise by requesting one. The same drawings you used to build the home become the gift.
That matters because new-build buyers have often spent months staring at those rooms on paper. Seeing them laser-cut in pine, layered so the walls stand off the backing, is a different kind of handover moment from a cheese board or a plant. It is their layout, with their names on it, not a generic box with your logo.
Our Signature 3D floor plan frame is cut from premium tight-grain pine with a natural finish, then hand-assembled. One size fits most shelves and narrow walls: 32.7 cm H × 24 cm W × 4.5 cm D (about 12.9 × 9.4 × 1.8 in), and it weighs about 0.7 kg. It hangs or stands on its own.
What does a floor plan closing gift cost?
Builders ask this early, usually as "what would something like this run?" or "how much do you charge?" The Signature frame is US$100 each.
That sits in a useful band for a handover gift: personal enough to feel considered, without the cost of a large branded hamper. The price is the same whether you order one frame for a single handover or several for a row of new builds.
How to order a builder handover gift before keys day
Timing is the part that catches people out. Each frame is made to order. Allow 3 to 5 days to make it, and it arrives within about 10 days. We ship worldwide. Customs can add a little time in some countries, so for a fixed handover date, order two to three weeks ahead.
- Use the plan you already have. Construction drawings, the marketing floor plan, or a clear PDF from CAD all work. We take JPG, PNG or PDF up to 20MB. Hand-drawn plans are fine if the room boundaries are clear. If the listing already shows a floor plan, you can send us the listing link instead of uploading a file.
- Place the order. You can upload the plan at checkout or send it after ordering. We'll email upload instructions if you need them. Nothing is cut until you approve a digital preview.
- Approve the preview. Check names, date, room labels and the layout. Once you sign off, we cut and assemble by hand.
- Ship to the site office or the buyers. Send it to wherever you will hand it over, or straight to the new address once they have moved in.
Plans are single level for now (multi-level is coming), so for a two-storey home pick the floor they will live in most. If you are cutting it close, email myhausframes@gmail.com before you order and we will tell you straight whether it can make your date.
How buyers know the gift is from you
There is no separate gift note with the frame. Put your company or contact name in the personalisation or date field so it sits on the piece itself, for example "With thanks from Riverbend Homes" or "Keys day, October 2026." Buyers see it every time they look at the wall. Keep logos off the wood; people are happier displaying their own names than a brand mark.
Pair the keepsake with something practical
A floor plan frame marks the day. Buyers still need help with the first week. If your budget allows two gifts, pair the frame with something useful: a hardware store card, a deep clean before move-in, or a small toolkit. Our guide to closing gift ideas for first-time home buyers covers that mix in more detail, and the closing gifts page is set up for people ordering frames as settlement or handover presents.
Agents and settlement teams use these frames the same way. The angle is identical: you already have the plan, the buyers keep something that is only about their home, and your name can sit quietly on the date line.
Builder handover gift FAQ
What is a good builder handover gift?
Something the buyers will still have after the first month. A 3D floor plan frame of their new build marks the keys day without adding clutter, and it works well next to a practical gift like a clean or a hardware store card.

The Hausframes Signature frame is US$100 each.
How far ahead should a builder order a handover gift?
